Wine term of the week - SUHO!

Whether you're a wine lover or a wine professional, understanding the terms used on Slovenian bottles will help you navigate styles, sweetness levels, and quality categories, especially when it comes to Penina, Slovenia’s sparkling wine.

We’ll be sharing key terms used in Slovenian winemaking, from grape varieties to label regulations, sugar levels, and quality designations. We will make sure that you can get to know Penina like a local!

WINE TERM OF THE WEEK: SUHO = DRY = BRUT

In Slovenian wine labeling, “suho” means dry, just like “sec” in French or “secco” in Italian. For still wines, "suho" typically means the wine contains less than 4 g/L of residual sugar.

For sparkling wines - Penina, it follows EU regulations:

✅ Brut / Suho - 0-12 g/L

So next time you see “Suho” on a bottle of Penina, you’ll know - it’s a dry sparkling wine with freshness and finesse, balanced by ripe fruit flavors!
