Regions and Terroirs

Nestled between latitudes 45° and 47° N, Slovenia is a land of remarkable geographical and climatic diversity. Slovenian vineyards thrive across three distinct wine regions - Podravje, Posavje, and Primorje - each with unique mesoclimates and natural influences.

In the northeast, Podravje, and in the southeast, Posavje, enjoy a moderate-to-cool continental climate, balanced by the cooling touch of the Alps and the warmth of the Pannonian Plain. Primorje region is situated to the west basks in a moderate-to-warm Mediterranean climate.

Each Slovenian wine region has sub zones with different cooling influences and therefore are preferable by penina producers.

Primorje - Slovenia’s most Mediterranean region

Primorje is Slovenia’s warmest wine-growing region, shaped by the sun-drenched hills and the steady influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea.
